Using a grounded‑theory approach, we conducted semi‑structured interviews with 42 participants (21 dyadic sister pairs) recruited from university campuses across three U.S. regions. Data were coded iteratively, yielding a four‑component model: (a) Playful Provocation , (b) Reciprocal Power Play , (c) Affectionate Sabotage , and (d) Negotiated Boundaries . Findings suggest that brattysis serves both as a mechanism for identity negotiation and as a buffer against external stressors, while also posing risks for misinterpretation in non‑familial contexts.
