"Bad Teacher" works almost entirely because of Cameron Diaz. She fully commits to being unlikable. Unlike other comedies where the "bad" character has a heart of gold hidden deep down, Elizabeth remains selfish, lazy, and cynical for most of the runtime. It is a refreshing change of pace from the standard "sweetheart" rom-com tropes.
