As of Bitcoin Core v22.0 and later, the software supports natively. You no longer need to swap files manually.
Bitcoin Core stores wallet data in a file commonly called wallet.dat. This file contains the private keys, addresses, transaction metadata, labels, and some wallet configuration. Because it holds the keys that control your coins, wallet.dat is the single most sensitive file in a Bitcoin Core node. Bitcoin Core Wallet.dat
Sweeping is safer than direct restore if you suspect key exposure. As of Bitcoin Core v22
Always keep 2-3 backups. If one file corrupts, you have others. Bitcoin Core Wallet.dat
